How It All Began
For Dave and Brenda, Uniondale, Indiana locals behind Double Creative Carvings, retirement couldn’t be more blissful. After 38 years managing a tire retread warehouse, Dave gravitated to wood with a passion. Brenda, on the other hand, retired from bookkeeping and sale bill designing. She invested in a CNC machine together with Dave and began designing wood pieces.
It has become a running joke between the woodcarving duo that Dave goes to the barn to create new projects with wood, while Brenda goes downstairs to the office to create new laser designs on wood. With a happy marriage that’s been going on for over 50 years and a lot more going into retirement, expect more top-notch woodworking to happen.

“We started with our passion for wood and went on to doing craft shows. After careful consideration, we decided to build a shop next to our home. We began by doing just engraved plaques to doing both engraving and lasering. Then, we moved on to creating keepsake boxes for special occasions with special messages of various sizes.
“We now create live edge furniture with special messages lasered on to mark special occasions. We also do unique epoxy rivers in various colors. We also create charcuterie boards, turntables, and serving trays using epoxy for a unique look.
“We use different types of wood, various finishes, and different epoxy colors. This creates a variety of beautiful and unique pieces. No two pieces are exactly the same. It’s amazing how each piece of wood turns into these beautiful pieces.”

With her father working in the construction industry, Brenda grew up around building and her passion for woodworking found its match in Dave. Together, they built their home 45 years ago from frame to interior finishing, along with the various additions in the intervening years.
